Accident report: Herbert Clark Killed. Thrown from Motorcycle to Brick Pavement. Local Man Victim olf Unusual Accident on East Eleventh Avenue.

Herbert Clark, 32, 1000 West Eleventh avenue, died last night at 6:30 o'clock at the hospital as a result of injuries received about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon when the motorcycle which he was riding overturned at the corner of East Eleventh avenue and South Second street, throwing him to the brick pavement and fracturing his skull in two places.

According to reports, Clark was an inexperienced motorcycle rider and was unfamiliar with the Henderson machine which he was riding and which belonged to _______. He left his home on the machine during the afternoon and was riding east on Eleventh avenue when the accident occurred. An inquest was held by the coroner this morning at which eye witnesses testified that Clark was going at a moderate rate of speed along the brick pavement and was riding along one edge of the hard road when he attempted to swing suddenly back in the center of the pavement causing his motorcycle to skid and throwing him to the pavement. Novella Johnson, 1136 South Second street, testified at the inquist this morning that she saw Clark coming down the ...... there were no other vehicles in sight, and saw the machine veer suddenly and throw the rider, who was also struck by the motorcycle when it toppled over on the pavement.

Immediately after the accident, neighbors carried Clark to the side of the road and called a physician who ordered the wounded man taken to the hospital where he passed away a few hours later. The physician stated at the inquest this morning that Clark was bleeding .... when he arrived and that there was also a severe ....right side of the head. An examination was made and it was found that Clark's skull had been fractured in two places at the base of the head and ....(the rest is unreadable from the copy).

Herbert was the son of Helic Seigal and Leoga Bell (Norris) Clark. They both survived him, as did his brothers, Thomas, Clyde and Frederick. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer S and an unnamed child who died in infancy. He was the grandson of Thomas George Washington and Caroline (Powers) Clark.
