William was a son of Adam Benbow Huggins and Elizabeth Crow. He married Rutha Marilza Jane Strickland Sept 13, 1854 in Montgomery County, Alabama. William and Jane moved from Montgomery Alabama to Grayson County Texas between 1877-1880.

Eleven children were born to this couple: Roxy Ann Parthany, John Henry Thompson, Thompson Adams Benjamin, William Toliver Torrence, Martha Emma Elizabeth, Sarah Emmalee, Mary Melisa Carry Fornia, Louizer Mandy Viola, Agripia Asbury Jackson, Richard Charlie Montgomery, and Oscar James Robert.
