I wish you could have met our brother, Rick. You would have liked him. Everybody did.
Rick was the son of Richard D. Burke and Marie De Lille. He attended St. Pancratius Elementary School in Lakewood, California before moving with his family to Portland, Oregon in 1966. In Oregon, he attended St. Anthony's Elementary School and Beaverton High School.
Beginning in high school, Rick worked framing houses. A deeply talented craftsman, he went on to own his own sub-contracting business for many years.
Rick was incredibly well-read and could hold forth on just about any topic you could imagine. He was good-natured, kind and generous, and he had a great sense of humor, complete with an unmistakable, trademark laugh.
I will always remember get-togethers at Rick's house in Cornelius when I was a little boy. Rick was always there for every family occasion. He was so likable, easy-going and funny, an awesome story-teller. People were drawn to him and would seek him out. I love all my brothers, but how I looked up to Rick when I was growing up.
Our brother loved the outdoors and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, camping, hiking, boating, and especially, playing catch with his son.
Rick was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He was always loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
You were a sweet and gentle soul, too good for this world. Whenever I hear the song "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor, I always think of you, Rick.
Sincere thanks to my friend, Jim Seidelman, for kindly restoring our brother's photo. Your kindness is greatly appreciated!
