JOHN J. CRANDALL
The remains of John J. Crandall were brought here Sunday from his late home in Poolville, and laid beside those of his first wife in Brookfield Rural cemetery. Mr. Crandall was born in this town Nov. 30, 1830. He was the son of Kilbourn Crandall who married Miss Ruth Rogers. His boyhood and youth were passed here and on his twenty-second birthday, Nov. 30, 1852, he was married to Sidenna L. Fuller, who died in 1874. The first recollection the writer has of Mr. Crandall was when he lived on the summit of Beaver hill, occupying the farm now owned by Joseph Woods. Some twenty-five years ago he moved to Hubbardsville and later to Poolville where here he married his second wife, Miss Ida Starkweather, who with five children survive. Two children by his first marriage are also living, Clarence L. Crandall of Leonardsville, and Mrs. Romaine Risley of Hubbardsville. His brothers and sisters were James Albert, Adelia Ann, wife of Hawley Clarke, Thomas A., of Brookfield, (all deceased) and Ruth Jane, wife of Edwin Whitford of Leonardsville. Mr. Crandall was a life-long republican in politics having at various times held public offices of importance in the town of Hamilton. He was also deputy-sheriff for several years. "For a period of fifteen years or more, Mr. Crandall was employed as canvasser and collector for the COURIER and his in this life were attended with remarkable success. He continued in this capacity until failing health and faculties compelled him to relinquish the work. He was genial in character and was a welcome guest at numerous social and political gatherings where his talent as a singer made him popular and prominent. Further reference to the deceased is made in our Poolville and Leonardsville items this week.
