LEWIS - Mrs. Ellen Kinney, daughter of Samuel & Eleanor Thatcher, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, 30 Oct 1804 and died in the same city on 10 July 1871. On 8 Jan 1821, she was married to the Rev Isaac Lewis, an itinerant preacher in the Holston Conference. The death of Bro Lewis on the 16 Jan 1864, in the midst of great troubles, was a terrible shock to his surviving companions. Sister Lewis was no ordinary woman. Her husband being a minister, was necessarily much absent from home. This threw the care of the family upon her, and nobly did she do her part. Her self-denial was great...Her children especially were forever on her heart. During the course of her life she did much to build up Methodism in Knoxville. - E E Hoss
