Mrs. California Hamblin, 89, died Saturday morning at the G.A.R. home in Puyallup, where she had lived the past 21 years. Mrs. Hamblin, who was named after the state of California because of older brothers participating in the 1849 gold rush, was the widow of John B. Hamblin, Civil War veteran. She was a member of the Baptist church. Surviving relatives include two sons, John W. of Tacoma and G.W. of St. Charles, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Austin of Tacoma and Mrs. Leonora Austin of Kansas City; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Piper's will announce the funeral.
