Actor and Military Leader. An actor before the war, performing on the Norwegian stage in plays by Ibsen, Garborg, and Grieg and small roles in a few films, Linge joined the Norwegian Army in 1940, becoming a company commander in early 1941. He was killed while leading the Norwegian forces in an attack on German headquarters in Måløy, on the island of Vågsøy, during "Operation Archery." He was awarded the Krigskorset med sverd (War Cross with sword), Norway's highest military decoration, and Norwegians continued to refer to his company as Kompani Linge throughout the war. He married Margit Vogt in 1917, and they had two children. [Some of the biographical information was provided by OsloNorway.]
