Francisco Rivas was the great grandson of the Los Angeles Pobladores Pablo Rodriguez and Rosalia Noriega. Son of Nieves Nieto Ruiz and Juan de Dios Rivas who came from Bolivia and was the first sastre' in Los Angeles.

Francisco became a vaquero at the age of fifteen herding cattle to San Francisco and also worked as trail boss for Rindge Ranch.
He joined the California Native Calvary at the age of nineteen at Drum Barracks where he is listed as vaquero, but he was also an Amansador de Caballo.
In his later years he farmed the Marquez and Machado land in Santa Monica till the death of his wife in 1921.
He spent some time in the Sawtell Old Soldiers Home, but his final years in the home of his youngest daughter in East Los Angeles where he died.
