Birth: 1814

South Carolina, USA
Death: 1862

Aaron Theodore Henson, Sr. was the son of Richard Lemuel Henson and Anne(Anny) Dill. His grandparents were: Richard and Susannah ? Henson and Elijah and Sarah Stewart Dill. He married Jane Elizabeth Lister around 1841 in Greenville County, South Carolina. He and Jane had five children: Thomas Carter(Tench) Henson, Nancy Elizabeth Henson, William Henry Henson, David Hoke Henson and Aaron Theodore Henson, Jr. No other children have been proven to belong to them. Greenville County formed a Home Guard during the Civil War and Aaron Henson was listed on the Muster Roll of Captain Joel Berry Farmer's Company of the Third Regiment of the First Corps of Reserves of the State of South Carolina, Commanded by Colonel W. J. Oilford, September 4, 1862. Family tradition says that even though he was 48 years old, he was on his way to join the Confederate Army in Greenville when he was stircken with an illness that proved fatal. Things were getting bad for the "Lost Cause" and many older men joined the war effort. His name appeared on the Home Guard roll with many, many older Greenville men whose familiy names were very well known in the area(Center, Ponder, Farmer, Tinsley, McMakin, Ballew, Barnett, Cooksey, Dill, Foster, Batson, Gosnell, Morrow, Shelton, Fisher, Langford, Bates, Howard, Odom, Suddeth, Stewart, Reid and Henson just to mention a few). Jane Lister Henson did not remarry and renained in the area until her death around 1906. In the 1850 Census Aaron's net worth was $150.00 and by 1860 it was almost $1,100.00. His very unfortunate death left Jane with a family of five during the middle of the Civil War. Both buried: Old Lister Family Cemetery-no markers.
