OBITUARY - Vincent Brumfield
Chatham, Va., April 3 - Vincent Brumfield, of Brights, this county, died suddenly Saturday night from heart disease. He had retired for the night. In a short while his daughter was aroused by his peculiar breathing, and going to his bed found him in a dying condition, death resulting in a few minutes. Mr. Brumfield was a farmer and seventy-three years old.
On Friday, his wife, who was of the same age, died of pneumonia. Six sons and two daughters survive them.

Vincent H. Brumfield was the son of Isaac and Letticia (Mayhue) Brumfield. He married Mildred Bobbit on Jan. 25, 1855 in Pittsylvania, Virginia. On the 1900 census, Mildred states she is the mother of 14 children, with 9 living at the time. The following are 11 known children born to this union:
1. William Henry Brumfield (1855–1935)
2. Thomas Anderson Brumfield (1856–1913)
3. Isaiah Jacob Brumfield (1858–1940)
4. John Foreman Brumfield (1860–1934)
5. Robert Vincent Brumfield (1862–1921)
6. James G. Brumfield (1865– bef. 1905)
7. Samuel H. Brumfield (1867–bef. 1905)
8. Virginia Frances Brumfield (1870–1958). Married Ulysses G. Doss in 1889. He died in 1945.
9. Sarah Alice Brumfield (1872–1954). Married Morgan O. Dalton in 1893. He died Feb. 23, 1910.
10. Martha E. Brumfield (1874– bef. 1905)
11. George Washington Brumfield (1878–1937)
