Credited as founder of Hollywood in 1887, with wife, Daeida Beveridge Wilcox. Harvey Wilcox was crippled from childhood by polio and spent his entire life in a wheel chair. He grew up on his father's farm in Lenawee County, Michigan, but he was apprenticed to a cobbler at a young age because of his inability to work on the farm. He moved to Bryan, Ohio during the 1850s where he married Ellen Young. Harvey and Ellen later moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Ellen died and he re-married Daeida Hartell. Harvey and Daeida were listed in the 1880 census of Topeka, but by the mid-1880s he had moved to Los Angeles to be near his sister, Sarah, wife of Elisha Luke, and his mother, Azubah (Mark) Wilcox. Elisha Luke and Harvey Wilcox were involved in real estate development in Los Angeles until Harvey's death in 1891. He was first buried next to his mother on the Luke family lot in Rosedale Cemetery near central Los Angeles, but on November 13, 1922, his remains were moved to Hollywood Forever and placed in the mausoleum next to his second wife, Daeida (Hartell) (Wilcox) Beveridge.
