Located outside of the stone fencing, this black granite monument stands to the left side of the front of the Balls Bluff Cemetery's main gate.

Clinton Hatcher (1840-1861) is buried in Ketoctin Cemetery, Purcellville, Virginia. The monument you photographed at Balls Bluff Battlefield was erected after the war by Union veterans near the spot where Hatcher was killed. It does not mark a grave.
