Captain Glenn Richard Cook, US Air Force Forward Air Control Pilot, 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron, 504th Tactical Air Support Group, 7th Air Force, was killed in action fighting for his country in the Republic of Viet Nam, 21 October,1969. Based at Cam Ranh Bay Air Base, he was calling in air strikes on enemy positions when his O-2 Sky Master aircraft went down in battle. His remains have not been found as of October,2019. Born 10 September, 1945 in Charlotte, N. C., the son of Frank and Eleanor Cook, he graduated from Garinger High School in 1963 and the Citadel in 1967. Survivors are his sister, Jan Cook Bradley and his son, Glenn R Cook, Jr., both of Florida. A memorial service at the marker placed beside his father's grave, was held with full military honors here in Sunset Memory Gardens on 31 May, 2015. Some 400 people were in attendance, including many veterans and patriotic folks who had never met him, but had heard of the service for this hero. Captain Cook was a Warrior Patriot who loved his God, his family, his Country, and his military profession. His willing sacrifice of his life to protect American forces on the ground, will always be mourned by family and friends who loved him.
"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
From the poem "For the Fallen" by Lawrence Binyon

tribute by Larry Walker, Garinger High School Class of 1964
