Otis Delbert Hake was the son of William Harrison Hake and Catherine Hake. His maternal grandparents were David Hake Sr. and Dorothy Hood. His paternal grandparents were The Reverend Emanuel Hake and Jane McConnel. He married Delia Victoria French Olson on 11 April 1899.

In 1900, Otis and Delia were living in Duluth, St. Louis County, Minnesota. Otis was employed as a grain verifier.

Delia French was born in March of 1870, in Michigan. Her father was born in New York. Living with Della and Otis, in 1900 was Otis' adopted son, Corwin W. Colford. Corwin was born on 30 September 1899, in Minnesota. His father was born in Michigan and his mother in New York.
