SETZER, MARCUS ELCANAH, Private, Co. E. 57th Regiment, NC Troops - Born on March 10, 1830. Enlisted in Catawba County at age 32, July 4, 1862, for the war. Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, October 9, 1862, with chronic catarrh. Returned to duty prior to November 1, 1862. Reported present through October 31, 1863. Captured at Rappahannock Station, Virginia, November 7, 1863. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, November 11, 1863. Died at Point Lookout on March 21, 1865, of "scurvy."
