Mr. Bates attended the Full Gospel Church as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Frank, Floyd, Henry, Virgil, Ben and Glen Bates; five sisters, Amy Kissir, Ora Sliger, Blanche Jones, Virginia Ritz and an infant sister, Nancy Bates; two children, Doretta and Russell Bates; one grandson and one great-grandson.
Surviving are his wife, Leota Bates of Licking Park Manor; five sons, Kenneth, Roger, Lloyd, Daryl and Adrin Bates of Licking, Six daughters, Ina Freeman and Frances Holland of Licking, Deloris Quick of Salem, Dona Greer, Margaret Goetz and Bonita Luna of Dyersburg, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 29 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Garrison officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
