MASSENA, N.Y. Kermit W. Dyke Jr., 69, of 14 Pleasant Street, Massena, N.Y. died Sunday morning at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted Saturday evening.

He was born March 18, 1938, at the family home in the town of Stockholm, N.Y., the son of Kermit W. Sr. and Grace (Moulton) Dyke. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School at the age of 15 in 1953 and Canton ATC in 1956. He was the first, third generation graduate from ATC. He married Virginia Russell on October 26, 1974, at the Church of Christ in Winthrop, N.Y.

He was a die maker at General Motors for 43 years until his retirement. He worked and lived in Bedford from 1987 until 1997. He was a former member of the Brasher-Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Elks Lodge, serving as chaplain while living in Indiana. He was a member of the New Hope Community Church, Massena, where he was currently serving as treasurer. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed camping, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed studying the Bible on the computer.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three children: Keely and Matthew Pemberton, West Bend, Wis., Jim and Marcy Smith, Massena; Timothy and Sheila Smith, Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren: Michele and Dustin; two great-grandsons: Tyler and Chase; one sister, Coralee and Peter Wallen, Potsdam, N.Y.; four brothers: Keith and Sandra Dyke, Plattsburgh, N.Y. ; Warren and Jane Dyke, Colton, N.Y.; Cary Ware, Winthrop, N.Y.; Carson and Donna Ware, Massena, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Carlton Ware and a nephew, Edward Ware.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 100 North Main Street, Massena, N.Y., with Pastor Doug Lombardi, of the New Hope Community Church, officiating. Entombment will follow in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
