Sam C. Kelley was the son of William Pressley and Mexico (Ollis) Kelley. He married Thursa Ellen Calhoon at Goreville on Feb. 13, 1915. They had 4 children: Blanche married Alma (Pete) Ray; Lester N. married Margaret Nicholson; William D. (Bill) married Juanita Parks; and Francis Ray married Evelyn Bradley. At the time of his death, Sam & Thursa had 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Orpha Corzine of Goreville and a brother Alvah Kelley of Goreville. He was preceded in death by a son, Francis Ray Kelley and a brother, Noel T. Kelley.
Sam was a member of Saline Lodge No. 339 at Goreville; Modern Woodmen; and was the first maintenance man on Rt. 37 between Marion and Vienna. He was also a farmer and had lived in Goreville all his life. He was a retired custodian at Ferne Clyffe State Park.
