Matilda was the daughter of John and Patsy Grady Dodson. She was 15 years old when she married John M. Needham on November 5, 1862 in Polk County, Missouri. Matilda was 7 months pregnant with their 11th child when John died. Their children were:
1) Laura Alice

3) Lizzie (1866- ?)
4) Henry Nelson
5) John Logan
6) Wilson Wayne
7) Martha Bell (1874- ?)
8) Arthur R. "OTT" (1875-1955)

When her youngest daughter Orpha married, Matilda lived with her in Collin County, Texas.

Ten years after John died Matilda filed for a widow's pension for John's Civil War service. The pension was for $25 a month.

There is a stone for Matilda in the Davis Cemetery where John is buried. It only has her initials with no dates.
