ELLIS, Richard Leo
Born Aug. 26,1927, in Alhambra, Calif., died of heart complications on May 31, 2007, in Ventura, Calif. He was born and raised in San Gabriel Valley. He joined the Merchant Marines at the outbreak of World War II. After leaving the Merchant Marines, he studied naturopathic medicine and worked as surgical nurse and physicians assistant. His search for truth led him to the Catholic Faith. He co-founded a Benedictine monastery for the physically disabled. After ten years of monastic life, he decided, with the blessing of Bishop Manning, to leave the monastic life. He moved to the Antelope Valley in 1961, and In 1962, he married Paula (Maliglig) Ellis. A 45 year resident of the Antelope Valley, he was the owner of Saint Raphael Press printing company, Saint Raphael Press Books and Gifts, and Compusup computer supply company, and was a member of the Antelope Valley Graphic Arts Club for more than 20 years. He was greatly loved by and will be missed by his wife Paula, by his children Katherine, Jessie, Angelica, Marilyn, Richard, Bennett, and Pauline, and by his 40 grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Halley Olsen Murphy, Lancaster. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside service immediately following at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster. Reception to follow graveside.
