Helen L. Hartwig, 76, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Rush-Copley Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1930 in Fremont, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Emil and Elna (Hansen) Sedlacek.

Helen was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She retired after many enjoyable years as an Aurora Public Library bookmobile clerk. Helen was an election judge for many years until she was no longer physically able to work. She was a member of the 4-H Club as a child and raised calves. Being born and raised on the family farm, she was a true farm girl, which led her to have a special relationship with animals including dogs, horses, a special Jersey cow named Peaches, plus various wild animals that would follow her home. That unique fondness of animals extended to Sophie, Char, and Tank whom she affectionately referred to as her "granddogs".

Survivors include her daughters, Deb Arsenault of Hinckley, IL and Candace (Leslie) Johnson of Kingston, IL; grandchildren, Benjamin and Brianna Johnson; a brother, Dale Sedlacek of Fremont, NE; a brother-in-law, Vern Hagedorn of Hot Springs, S.D.; a niece, Vanessa (Chris) McClure; a great niece, Johanna McClure; and a great nephew, Bryan McClure.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hartwig; a sister, Darlene Hagedorn; her dog, Shep; and her favorite Jersey cow, Peaches.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4, 2007 at 10 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Dr., Aurora, IL 60506. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 3, 2007 from 2-6 PM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60506.
