George E. Shiflett, 71, Route 2 Gadsden, died Monday at 11:50 p.m. at his residence after an illness of three months.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Youngs Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josie Shiflett; one son, Virgil M. Shiflett of Anniston; five daughters, Mrs. Linnie V. Hutt, Oxford, Ala., Mrs. Inis Frier, Glencoe, Mrs. Exer Newell, Phil Campbell, Ala., Mrs. Verlor Robertson, Gadsden and Miss Nomie Shiflett, Gadsden; two brothers, Mancel and Robert Shiflett, Cedartown, Ga.; 32 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Shiflett was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and a farmer. He was formerly of Marion County, Ala. Mr. Shiflett had been a resident of Etowah County for nine years.
