• 1 F Hannah Lobdel Calcott HILLS Birth abt 1618 Death 22 Oct 1692, Haddam, Middlesex Co, CT [1049] Spouse Gerrard SPENCER Marriage 17 Dec 1636, Lynn, Essex Co, MA [1045]Gerard's first wife and mother of Nathaniel. His second wife was Rebecca Porter Clark.Jared Spencer married (1) by 1638, ____ ____. They had twelve children: John, Mehitabel Cone, Marah Brooks Shaler, Hannah Brainerd, Sarah Backus, Thomas, Samuel, Timothy, Ruth Clark, William, Nathaniel, & Rebecca Kennor Tanner.
The early wife of Jared who was the mother of his children has always been named as Hannah. Jacobus follows these authorities though confessing that he has not seen an original source or quoted contemporary record so naming her. Anderson suggests that the given name of his 1st wife may have been Grace. Two of the sons of Jared Spencer named daughters Grace, and Jared made a special point of making small bequests to these two grandchildren when many other grandchildren went unmentioned.
The earliest known reference to a daughter named Elizabeth, who married John Stannard, was published in 1907, without supporting evidence, by William Henry Spencer. Most later treatments of the family include this daughter also wioutou evidence, & so we do not include her in the list of children above. The birth-order chronology is crowded enough with 12 children.

You can find this book on google books. It list Alice as the wife of Jared Spencer and the mother of Mahitable Spencer Cone.Hannah "Grace" Spencer. Her maiden name is unknown. There is no proof of her families name.
She was married to Ensign Gerard Spencer in 1637, in Lynn Hartford, CT.
She died before 1683, in Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut. Her home and Burial area very near Thirty Mile Plantation Burial Yard.
Her daughter Elizabeth Spencer, who married John Standard, is my direct ancestor.

Elizabeth who married John Standard, was published in 1906, by William Henry Spencer.

Gerard Spencer is WRONGLY listed as married a second time was while Hannah was still living. Only the child from the first Wife are recognized. Other memorials do not recognize us, --first born--
We are only concerned with Hannah and her TRUE daughter Elizabeth.

Died Before 1683, in Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut. Thirty Mile Island Plantation Burial Yard

She was the wife of ENSIGN GERARD SPENCER II. The son of GERARD & ALICE (WHITEBREAD) SPENCER. (Gerrard Spencer Sr. 1576- d. 8 June 1625 burried: St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard. Stotfold, Central Bedfordshire Unitary Authority, Bedford England. His brother: Thomas Spencer 1571-1631.)
They were married 1636 -7 in Lynn, Hartford, Haddam, Connecticut. When she was 18.

He married First: Hannah [unknown] Her death was dated before her husband made his will, and perhaps earlier than. Since the publication of Goodwin's "Genealogial Notes" in 1856, the early wife of Gerard, who was the mother of his children, has always been named as "Hannah" or "Joanus", There is no written document found of this, it is assumed, as the names of the children are also named. Birth dates assigned to the children given are in some cases, --guesses note: 1683.--
The family removed to Hartford about 1660 and to Haddam, Conn. in 1662 where he one of the first settlers. On October 8, 1668, the Court at Hartford appointed Ens. "Jarrad Spencer" as part of a committee to view land leased by Mr. Richard Lord, Sr. that is thought to be in Haddam Plantation and determine the bounds. He was propounded a freeman for Haddam on June 26, 1672, and was appointed Ensign of the Trainband there in September, 1675, serving in the Narraganset Indian War. He was a deputy for Haddam to the General Court at Hartford from 1674 to 1680 and 1683.

Jarred os listed in his Grandfathers will Dated Sept 17, 1683, who: Ensign Jarred Spencer Sr. willed his grandson of his son Thomas, his Rapier, (sword?).
His wife is likely Hannah Pratt. Thomas had 40 acres on Matchamodus Side.

I received the following edit from Findagrave member, Connie (48921690) on 15 December 2021.
Suggested edit: If Gerard Spencer remarried about 1677 then his wife, Hannah must have died before that, no hint of divorce. The Hannah Spencer that died October 22, 1692 was the daughter of John Pratt of Hartford and she married Gerrard's nephew, Jared, son of Thomas Spencer.
