LILLIAN M. GARNER

A native of central Klickitat County, Lillian M. Garner was born August 21, 1885, in Centerville and died July 13, 1970, in Goldendale.

As the daughter of Theodore and Mary Jackel, she spent her early life attending the Centerville schools and later Goldendale Academy.

She was married to George Garner of Centerville October 11, 1909, and spent 37 years on their ranch south of Centerville assisting in the raising of grain crops and stock.

She was widowed in September, 1945.

She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Portland, the Goldendale Chapter AM, PEO Sisterhood, the Billikins, and was a 50-year member of both the Centerville Grange, of which she was secretary for many years, and Evergreen Chapter No. 1, OES.

In 1946 she moved to Portland, where she resided until her death. During the past 20 years, she traveled extensively. But she loved her home and made it the center of her life, entertaining her family and friends. She gave of herself generously in furthering many community and civic projects, both here and in Portland.

She is survived by a brother, August T. Jackel, of Goldendale; a sister, Vilda B. Hafner, of Portland; and a nephew, Robert Jackel, of San Francisco, and his son of David.

Funeral services were conducted July 16 in Goldendale with the Rev. Robert Rains officiating. Interment was at the Centerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Anderson, Howard Masters, Henry Garner, Lyle Tobin, Alvin Eshelman and William Garner.
