She was the daughter of Archibald Johnson. She came to Fountain County, Indiana with her family in 1823.

Her and James' wedding was one of, if not the first, of Fountain County. James, the son of Enos Davis, obtained the marriage license in Terre Haute, Indiana by walking there and back. On the way back, he stopped at John Hibbs' residence in southern Wabash Township. The two preceded by foot to Sally Johnson's father' home where the ceremony was conducted by Hibbs.
