Son of Joseph Granville "Joe" Callahan and Katie Amelia White Callahan.
Huband of Ethel Ormsby Callahan.
Husband of Adeline L. Callahan.

After a long illness J. C. Callahan was claimed by death last Thursday night. Mr. Callahan had been in ill health for many months and after long weeks in a hospital, major surgery and finally many more weeks he underwent surgery for the removal of one of his toes. He came home and was getting along well when infection set in again and his leg had to be removed. The past few weeks he was getting along well, driving his car and going about his usual business seemingly making good recovery. He suffered a heart attack Thursday from which he did not recover.

Joseph Calvin Callahan was born on May 19, 1894, and died October 30, 1958. He was the son of early residents of Pipe Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Callahan. He was a life long resident of Bandera county and had been engaged in the grocery business for many years here in Bandera. He was one of Bandera's most colorful personages, with a smile and a joke for everyone.

Funeral services were conducted at the Bandera Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, November 2, 1958, at 2 p.m., with Brother W. R. Swinney of the Medina Church of Christ and Rev. David L. Stewart, pastor of the Bandera Methodist Church officiating. Interment was made in the Pipe Creek cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Mr. Callahan is survived by his sorrowing wife, Adelina Callahan; three sons, Dan and Calvin Callahan of Bandera and Stanley Callahan of Mississippi; three daughters, Mrs. Grace Raute of Natalia, Mrs. Helen Edwards of Pipe Creek and Mrs. Connie Whitehead of Waller; nineteen grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Callie Curry of Snyder, Mrs. Arthur Schultz of Junction, Mrs. Gus Heisler of Pipe Creek and Mrs. Edgar Schultz of Boerne; brothers, John and Aylor Callahan, both of San Antonio.
