Lorene Chastain, 94, of Crane, Mo., was born January 11, 1913, in Stone County, Mo., to Loren Allen and Grace Belle Smythe Gatton and departed this life May 4, 2007, in Ozark Mountain Regional Health Care Center, Crane. Lorene was united in marriage to Gordon Chastain on December 5, 1931, and to this union two daughters were born. Lorene was a lifelong resident of the area and had graduated from Crane High School in 1931. She was a homemaker. Lorene was a member of the Crane Church of God and the WPFA. She was a good cook who enjoyed sewing, flowers, working in her home and spending time with her grandchildren. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents and husband Gordon. Survivors include her daughters, Helen Cutbirth and husband, Bill, of Crane, and Janice Peebles and husband, Joe, of Clever; one brother, Allen Gatton of Kansas City, Kan.; four sisters, Elizabeth Parsons of Springfield, Mo., Ruth Henson of Santa Teresa, N.M., Nadine Kemper and husband, Dale of Springfield, Mo., and Blanche Clevenger and husband, Willard, of Hurley; eight grandchildren, Judy Berkstresser, Janet Cutbirth, Billy Cutbirth, Brian Cutbirth, Debbie Pope, Randy Peebles, Sherri Young and Melissa McGehee; 23 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren with three more expected this summer; numerous other relatives and friends. Lorene will be missed by all who had the chance to know and love her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Westrip Funeral Home, Crane, with burial to follow in Crane Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held this evening, May 7, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Southwest Missouri.
