(Ethel loved cooking and crocheting. During the summers when the family usually visited, she would roll up her sleeves and work all day Saturdays, she would roll out dough and make home-made noodles, Pop (Madison) would kill a fresh chicken and gram would prepare it for cooking on Sunday, he would pick the corn, beans, tomatoes and potatoes, I would have to pick the gooseberries for the cobblers, gather fresh eggs for deviling. On Sundays she would cook all morning preparing the biggest feast fit for a king., once the meal was over, she would drape a cloth over the food for snacking that night, us kids would have to clean up....those were the days long gone. She crochet all her linens with pretty details and made doilies. Gram was very picky about her house and her appearance, she was stern, set in her ways and never one to reckon with.)
