Virgil E. Rowden, 71, of Meta died Monday, Jan 16, 1989 at his home. HE was born Dec. 1, 1917 in Maries County to Elmer T. and Nora May Sloan Rowden. On Feb. 5, 1966 he was married to Mamie Lister Helton, who died Aug. 25, 1982.

Mr. Rowden was a retired heavy equipment operator and had worked for the Civil Service at Fort Leonard Wood. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle.

Surviving him are a son, Melvin Rowden of Meta; a daughter, Carolyn Clark of Phoenix, Ariz.; four step-daughters, Betty Knoblauch and Ann Ray, both of Dixon, Nancy Howden of Fort Wood and Florence Raynard of Lake Ozark; two brothers, Curtis Rowden of Edwars, Ill. and Norman Rowden of Iberia; three sisters, Mabel Sloan of Dixon and Marie Ahart and Lorene Workman, both of Iberia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home in Iberia with the Rev. Monty Roark officiating. Burial will be in Brays Cemetery.
