BEATRICE ETTA MCDERMOTT

SWANTON / ST. GEORGE, Vt. -- Mrs. Beatrice Etta McDermott, 82, a native and former resident of Lakewood Drive in West Swanton, died Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2005, in the Birchwood Terrace Health Care Center in Burlington with family by her side.

Born in Swanton, Jan. 30 1923, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Frances (Stoliker) Root. She attended Swanton High School and in 1943 was married to Kenneth Joseph McDermott who predeceased her on Jan. 15, 1995.

In earlier years Beatrice lived in Billerica, Mass. where she belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. In 1974 she returned to Swanton, Vt. Prior to her admission to Birchwood Terrace she had lived for a time with her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jeff Bennett in St. George. She will be remembered as a very loving person always willing to care for family, friends or anyone in need.

Bea leaves three daughters, Gail Berube Kandler and her husband Edward of Leander, Texas, Lois Bourque and her husband Russell of Palm Bay, Fla. and Elaine Bennett and her husband Jeff of St. George; 11 grandchildren, Paul ?P.K.? Berube and James Berube of Leander, Texas, Scott Berube of Cambridge, Minn., Stephen Marchant, Jr. of Methuen, Mass., Joseph Marchant of Manassas, Va., Robert Marchant of Leominster, Mass., Michael Marchant of Kissimmee, Fla., John Ryan and his wife Karen of Swanton, Michelle Ryan of St. Albans, Kristy Ryan of St. Albans and David Ryan Stationed with the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood, Texas; two step-grandsons, Josh and Andy Bennett of Burlington; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Levick of Swanton, Ruth Palmer of Milton and Marion Wolcott of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Ella Hakey and Dorothy Sanborn; and four brothers, Lester, John, Donald and Allen Root.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 10 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Interment will follow in the McDermott family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, March 14, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
