IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Ruth Aileen Lowe Amberson, 88, of Idaho Falls, died April 20, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of heart failure.
She was born March 18, 1919, to Thomas and Clara Anderson Lowe in Richfield, Utah, the only girl in a family of five brothers. She graduated from Richfield High School in May, 1937. She later moved to Seattle where she worked at the University of Washington in the College of Mines.
After a long-distance courtship due to World War II, Ruth married Charles Byron Amberson in Laredo, Texas on October 17, 1944. She supported her husband in his Air Force career, living throughout the United States and Europe. Following Charles' discharge from active duty, the couple moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, then relocated to Paducah, Kentucky. Charles' job in Nuclear Energy brought them to Idaho Falls in 1954.
Ruth actively supported her seven children throughout their school years, serving as PTA President and working on behalf of school bond issues. She contributed many hours to 4-H, Boy and Girl Scouts, blood drives, voter registration and The League of Women Voters. As involved as she was in community service, Ruth was always a wife and mother first.
Ruth was active in state Democratic party politics and was Chairwoman of the Bonneville County Democrats. She was appointed by Governor John V. Evans as a member of the Commission on Women's Programs and as a member of the Idaho State Board of Denturity. Among special honors she received was the Harry S. Truman Service Award in 1988 from the Bonneville County Central Committee. She counted among her political friends the late U.S. Senator Frank Church, former Governor, Cecil Andrus and former Governor, John Evans.
Among her many talents, Ruth was a fine cook and baker. She kept busy with her knitting needles, assuring that family and friends were warm and loved. Her association with her bridge club always remained a special part of her life. She loved and was devoted to her children and grandchildren.
Ruth was a life-long learner and had studied at University of California at Berkeley, University of Utah, and Idaho State University.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday for one hour prior to the services, both at Wood Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
