[Note on The Hardup Cemetery: Situated upon farm now owned by Mr. Goodman, formerly owned by Mr. Thomas B. Hagen Section 30, Township 48, Range 31. This cemetery was situated at Hardup Church, which exited before the War between the States. There were between 30-40 graves. No marker of any kind. Harry Younger, the brother of Cole Younger's father, was first buried here, but removed to Harrisonville after the War.]

James Pendleton Shepherd Sr. was brother to William C. Thiest Shepherd [born ca. 1775 in Halifax Co., NC; died 1828 in Big Stone Gap, Wise Co., VA]
Two of James Pendleton's grandsons [sons of John Pendleton Shepherd] rode with Quantrill's Raiders and the Jesse James Gang and one of these participated in robbery of the Southern Deposit Bank in Russellville Kentucky on March 20, 1868.
