Rev Fr Edward V McCullough

Monsignor McCullough was born in Sherman, Texas the son of Hugh and Margaret A. (Murphy) McCullough. He died, apparently of a heart attack, while attending a wedding at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Fort Worth, Texas.

He obtained his higher education at St Gregory's College, Shawnee, Oklahoma, St. Joseph Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas and at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

On 26 May 1927 he was ordained at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dallas, Texas.

He was then appointed to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waxahachie, Texas. In 1932 he was transferred to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cleburne, Texas.

In 1940 he returned to his home town of Sherman as the pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where as a child he was baptized. He also served as Dean of the North Texas Diocese.

In 1943 Pope Pius XII elevated him to Monsignor.

In 1954 he was named pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church in Tyler, Texas where he directed the building of the Catholic High School. He also served as Dean of the East Texas Diocese.

In 1957 he was transferred to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Forth Worth, Texas, where he directed the construction of St Paul's Parochial School. He was invested as a domestic prelate on 20 May 1963.

Monsignor McCullough was one of the senior ranking clergymen in the Dallas-Fort Worth Diocese. In June 1966 he retired as the pastor of St. Paul's.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Joseph McCullough, John McCullough, Hugh Thomas and James Patrick.

He was survived by one sister, Miss Mary McCullough of Sherman; three brothers, Charles and Felix McCullough of Sherman, and Frank McCullough of Dallas; a number of nieces and nephews also survived him.

Rosary was recited by Reverend John B. Duesman, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman, at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel, Sherman.

Solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Most Reverend Thomas K. Gorman, Bishop of Dallas Fort Worth Diocese at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sherman.

Six priests of the Dallas Fort Worth Diocese served as pallbearers.
