Albert Griffin Bartlett was born in Apr 1849 in southwest England in the County of Devon in the small village of Axmouth located on the banks of the Axe estuary which is part of the extensive Jurassic Coast, to Samuel Bartlett and Elizabeth Griffin. His father was a Carpenter.

May 6, 1849, Albert was Baptized in the Anglican Church in Axmouth.

VILLAGE OF AXMOUTH
The village is near the mouth of the River Axe, and is about one mile inland, on the east bank of the Axe estuary. The Axmouth Parish extends along the estuary to the sea, and a significant distance to the east. The village is over 1,100 years old. In the will of King Alfred the Great, who died in 899 AD, Axmouth was left to his youngest son Aethelweard. According to Historic England, 'Axmouth was ranked as a major port by the mid-14th century and accounted for 15% of the country's shipping trade'. The remains of a late medieval fishing boat can be seen at low tide in the River Axe, just south-west of the village.

1851 Census, the family is living at the Turnpike House. His father is a carpenter.

VOYAGE TO AMERICA
Jul 15, 1857, the family departed from Liverpool, England arriving on this date on the Ship 'City of Washington' in New York City. According to The Gould Residence website, the family migrated to Fort Stanley, Canada, then shortly moved to Adrian, Michigan. Years later they moved to California.

1879, Albert's occupation is Jewelry and he is a citizen by virtue of naturalization of his father. He is living in Ventura, California.

Jun 4, 1880 Census, Albert is living in San Buena Ventura in California next door to his brother. Both are single. He is a Jeweler.

1882, Albert and his brother Charles opened the Barlett Music Store in Los Angeles.

Jan 19, 1882, Albert married Mary Ann 'Mae' McKeeby, the daughter of Judge Lemuel Clarke McKeeby and Caroline Augusta Sampson.
They had two daughters, Bessie Herbert Bartlett and Florence Eddye Bartlett.

Apr 15, 1910 Census, he is a Retired Capitalist. His wife and two daughters live with him on Vista Delman St, in Los Angeles.

1911, the Bartlett home, 6219 Hollywood Blvd., in Hollywood, was in the midst of an eight-acre estate where the Pantages Theater was later erected on the corner of Hollywood and Vine, at 6233 Hollywood Blvd.

Jan 1920 Census, he owns a real estate office in Los Angeles. His wife and daughter Florence live with him. His daughter Bessie and her husband Harry Tipton Steck live next door.

Fall of 1921, he and his brother acquired the Union Oil Building, the tallest in Los Angeles when erected in 1911. Renamed the A.G. Bartlett Building, the structure still stands today and, in 2002, was remodeled with 130 lofts in the upper stories and first-floor retail spaces.

Apr 6, 1923, Albert dies suddenly from congestion of the lungs. He was buried on the 8th in the family lot at Rosedale Cemetery.
