Mr. Shelley was a General Motors pilot and KLM pilot. Relatives said flying was one of his greatest loves. He was a member of Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church in Center Line, and served as the first president of the Clinton Valley Little League.
He was a flight instrument instructor, attaining the rank of lieutenant during World War II. He met his wife while serving in the South Pacific, where she was a U.S. Army nurse. He earned a bachelor's degree from Aurora College.
Mr. Shelley is survived by his wife, Amna; children, Mark Shelley and Elizabeth (Friedberg); four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, John; and sisters, Ellen Read, Janet Cox, Audrey Fetty and Emily Garton.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Janet, in 1969.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes, Clinton Township. Burial with military honors will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.
