U.S. Congressman. A native of Pennsylvania, his family moved to Clermont County, Ohio when he was a young boy. He apprenticed as a printer and worked for a local newspaper. He was elected to the Ohio Legislature and unsuccessfully ran for Governor in 1844. He became the editor of the "Republican", a Whig party newspaper in Clinton County, Ohio. He was then elected as a Whig to represent Ohio's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1847 to 1849. In 1848, John Quincy Adams suffered a fatal stroke on the House floor and collapsed into Fisher's arms. Fisher was not a candidate in the following election and returned to Southwest Ohio where he became the City Magistrate of Cincinnati while also working for another newspaper company. He later retired to Clermont County where he spent much of his childhood, and died there when he was 91 years old.
