Larry Richard Grey, 63, of Platteville, Colo. died Thursday March 15, 2007. He suffered a heart attack while driving south on I-25 in Colorado and died at the scene of the accident.

A memorial will be held in Platteville on Saturday, March 24.

A memorial gathering for the family and friends of Larry will be held at the American Legion in Miller, S.D. from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 26.

Larry was born March 15, 1944, in Miller, S.D. to Robert and Beulah (Story) Grey. He grew up on the farm north of Miller and attended rural schools in Holden Township and graduated from Miller High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1963 and served on the US Bennington. The Bennington aircraft carrier provided support during the Vietnam conflict. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1969, he moved to Colorado and attended a law enforcement academy in Trinidad, Colo. He also worked in construction, the oil fields and most recently was hauling heavy equipment.

Larry enjoyed hunting, coin collecting, gun collecting and helping others. He is known for his Commander support in many VFW, American Legion, and Moose Halls.

He married Jeanette Crawford on December 28, 1975. They had three sons, Joshua (Becky) of Milliken, Colo., Russell (Tanya) of Frederick, Colo., and David (Samantha) of Platteville, Colo. He has nine grandchildren.

Other survivors include his brothers, Kelvin (Carol) Grey of St. Lawrence and Gary Grey of Pierre; sister, Ramona (Frank) Fischer of Johnstown, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
