Son of Samuel D. Akers and Sitha Anne (Engle) Akers.

Married to Myrtle Irene (Lee) Akers. Father of Chauncey Lee and Richard P. Akers. Widowed in 1915.

Married to Katherine (Hoffman) Akers on June 12, 1919.

OBITUARY:

Dora E. Akers, 76, Prominent Merchant, Dies At Hospital

Dora E. Akers, 76 years old, prominent Sullivan merchant, died at 10:45 Sunday night at the Mary Sherman Hospital, following a brief illness. Final rites will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Billman Chapel. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Akers was a lifetime merchant, starting as a young man in Sullivan and following that business in Terre Haute, San Antonio, Texas and Hammond, returning to Sullivan in 1933 where he operated the Akers Variety stores in Sullivan, Carlisle and Shelburn, and at the time of his death he was the owner of Akers Kitchen Shoppe.

Mr. Akers was a member of the Methodist Church of Sullivan and services will be conducted by the Rev. Aldrich of that church, assisted by Rev. Jack Anderson.

Close surviving relatives are the wife, Katherine; two sons, Richard of Sullivan and Lee of Peru, and three grandchildren.

The body is lying in state at the Billman Mortuary where friends may call after 11 o'clock on Tuesday.
