George Long, died in an airplane crash Sept. 13, 1943, over the Gulf of Mexico. As per his brother's obituary:

Brother, John Koste Long Jr. was born May 14, 1921, in Niles, the son of John and Ann Serbu Long. The family were members of the Niles Romanian Orthodox Church. This veteran enlisted in the Army in 1939 and was at Pearl Harbor when the Japs attacked, following which he saw action in New Guinea and Guadalcanal.


Survivors are his father, John Long, of Niles; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Estes, of Niles, and Mrs. Ann Valot, of Howland; and a brother, John.


Another brother is also named John: John Long Jr., is with the Navy in the South Pacific (in 1945).
