A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late William Lonnie and Ruth Barber Thompson and the wife of Benjamin Cecil Beckom, who survives.
During her career, she had been employed by Western Electric, was secretary for First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, operated The Coffee Shop and then retired as secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Graham. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elon and was active in the United Methodist Women as well as The Shallowford Squares.
