At the young age of 12 years he lived on a nearby farm working as hired help to earn hisown keep.
He married Jennie Westerman(1871-1935) January 27,1889 in Pa. Jennie was born in Bulter County in 1871. They had 8 children: Edna Mae, Harry H., John Francis, Matilda D, Vilola Bessie (Dolly), Hazel E. and Mary F.
John Francis served in the armed forces during World War I.
