Alfred crossed the Plains with his parents in a covered wagon in 1864. The family lived for a few years in Nevada, then traveled on to California, settling in Lake County in 1867.
As a young man, Alfred lived in both Washington and Idaho. He eventually returned to California and was living with his niece, Mrs. Harvey Meador of Scotts Valley, at the time of his death in 1947.
