Gene asked that the last words written or spoken about him would be "10-4 Dough Boy over and out".Eural “Gene” Webster, 85, died at his home on Sunday, June 4, 2017 of complications of pancreatic cancer. He was born in Good Hope, Illinois, to parents Sarah “Lucille” Miller Webster and Eural “Dale” Webster on March 29, 1932, weighing less than two pounds – so tiny the doctor refused to register a birth certificate, though Gene would eventually grow to six foot two. He married Sherrill Jean Carrison on July 25, 1952 in Macomb. Sherrill passed Dec. 28, 2003.

Gene is survived by four daughters -- Terri Webster (Rose Padorke); Debbie Klinedinst (Donald); Deanna Paul (Steve) and Julie Blout (Aaron), and by (niece) Jody Glynn Patrick (Kevin). . Gene was the beloved grandfather of Brandon Smith, Evan Paul (Leah), and Bridjet Blout, and also of step-grandchildren Garry Paul (Jenny), Eric Klinedinst (Kathy), Neil Klinedinst (Jennie), and Sarah Kluthe (Justin).Gene also is survived by great-grandsons Wesson Smith and Mason Paul, and by many step-great grandchildren. Gene also was loved by many other nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special lady friend Jackie Zook and her family. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul “Butch” Webster and Buddy Richard Webster, and by his sister Marilyn “Joyce” Webster.

Gene was raised and educated in Macomb. He joined the U.S.A.F. as a young man and spent 20 years in the service, including one year in Viet Nam. During that time, he traveled extensively, spending time in the Azors during the Korean War and in Spain, Germany and many posts stateside. He was a talented baker and also a crew chief working on B47 and B52 Bombers. After retiring from the military, he bought and operated Home Bakery in Bushnell in 1972. He also worked at NTN Bower while running the bakery. He then worked for Vaughn & Bushnell as his third career. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Bushnell Fire Department and was active in the VFW during those years.

Gene was passionate about many things in life, including Eve, his pet dog. He loved watching his grandchildren in their many sporting events and activities. Gene was an avid fan of the Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He was very patriotic and he loved woodworking, carving, and teaching for the Gin Ridge Carving Club. He also liked hunting and collecting Dough Boy paraphernalia.

Gene enjoyed 25 years spent with Sherrill and Terri selling woodcrafts at the scenic Spoon River Drive in Bernadotte, oftentimes “helped” by grandchildren Brandon, Evan and Bridjet -- who often doubled as his fishing and camping buddies, too. He loved telling stories and riding his scooter all about town with the flag waving on the back. In his last years, he especially loved family dinners, attending local sporting events, country/western concerts, and area festivals. However, Gene’s favorite pastime of all was camping with Jackie.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday June 8, 2017 at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at the VFW immediately following committal services at the Bushnell Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family for food and visiting at the VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in Gene’s memory. Please sign the guestbook and leave condolences at www.martinhollisfh.com
