Harold J. Hewitt of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Elkton, died Saturday, July 14, 2007 in Sarasota, Florida.
He was born November 13, 1922 in Oliver Township at the home of his parents, the late Henry L. and Martha Staehli Hewitt. Harold grew up near Elkton and farmed with his Dad and later his own farm around the corner from the family farm. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth McKnigh on November 26, 1943 in Elkton and raised their family on the farm. He and Mary parted in the late 70's. On July 10, 1982 he was united in marriage to June M. Stewart Ruth in Caro. He retired in 1982 and lived in Caro until moving to Florida in October of 20014. While in Florida he learned and loved playing shuffle board.
Harold was a member of the ORange Grove Free Methodist Church in Florida and a former member of the Elkton Missionary Church.
Surviving are his wife, June; three children, Dwight (Nancy) Hewitt of Houston, TX, Ken Hewitt of Wentworth, MO and Karen (Don) Kerkow of LaCenter, WA+; two sisters, Dorothy Overley of Newaygo and Arlene Arnold of Goshen, IN.
Preceding him in death were his daughter, Janice Ross and his son Dennis Hewitt and a brother, Henry Hewitt.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Thursday July 19 at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Entombment in the Colfax Township Mausoleum, Bad Axe
