Vice-Admiral. 29th Chief of Clan Mackintosh. Son of Duncan Houston Mackintosh and Louisa Mary Kekewich. He married Margaret Elisabeth Darroch, daughter of Lt.-Col. Duncan Darroch, 6th of Gourock and Elizabeth Mabws Boughey, on 26 July 1927.

He was educated at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, then at Royal Naval College, Isle of Wight. He commanded destroyer HMS Medea in World War I and was decorated with the award of the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.) in 1918. He went on to command the light cruiser Charybdis and the aircraft carriers Eagle, Victorious and Implacable during World War II, retiring with the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1950.

He held the position of 29th Chief of Clan Mackintosh from 1938. He was made a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1943. He was decorated with the award of the U.S. Legion of Merit in 1943. He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1943.

He and his brothers have a cenotaph at nearby Daviot Parish Churchyard that is next to his wife's grave.
