NORWAY - Virginia L. Cyr, 81, of Norway, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Ginny was born in West Paris on July 15, 1935, a daughter of Hartley and Frances (Richardson) Ward.

She attended West Paris schools and graduated from West Paris High School.

As a young woman active in the 4-H, she was the first girl to participate in the calf scramble at the Fryeburg Fair along with her sister, Kay.

She met her future husband through 4-H, Clifford B. Cyr, and they were married May 15, 1954.

For many years, Ginny worked as a secretary at Robinson Mfg. in Oxford, and at C.B. Cummings in Norway. She had also worked in housekeeping and the kitchens at Norway Rehabilitation Center and Market Square Nursing Home.

During their several years living in Kissimmee, Fla., she worked as a waitress at Red Lobster.

She enjoyed being involved in racing while her husband Cliff raced, and she typed the programs and rule books for Oxford Plains Speedway.

Besides racing, Ginny also loved reading and going to the horse and pony shows at the local fairs with her sisters, Kay and Gloria.

She is predeceased by her husband who died October 4, 2001; and a son, Kenneth Cyr in 1987.

Surviving are a son, Dennis Cyr, and his wife, Dawn, of Oxford; two sisters, Kay Daniels of West Paris, and Gloria Hadley of West Paris; three grandchildren, Cassie Portillo, Kevin Benson and Kyra Darling; and five great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE
CYR - Virginia L., 81, of Norway, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017. A graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in South Paris on Saturday, May 6, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Virginia's memory be made to the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, 4-H Oxford County Office, 9 Olson Road, South Paris, ME 04281-6402. Arrangements are in the care of OXFORD HILLS FUNERAL SERVICES, 1037 Main St. Oxford.
