Howard L. Klingensmith, 85, of Airport Road, Gilpin Township died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin Township.

He was born May 22, 1918 in Gilpin Township to Lavern S. and Susan (Woodside) Klingensmith.

Mr. Klingensmith was a custodian and former stocker in the Open Hearth Furnace at the Vandergrift plant of Wean United, retiring in 1979 after 35 years.

An Army veteran, he served during World War II as a PFC with Troop C in the 8th Calvary in the Philippines.

He was a member of Forks-Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gilpin Township.

He was a member of the Parks Township Sportsmen's Club.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing and farming.

A lifelong resident of Gilpin Township, he lived at his Airport Road residence for the past 57 years.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Catherine E. (Smail) Klingensmith; one son, Thomas E. Klingensmith of Gilpin Township; one daughter, Mrs. John (Ruth) Rich of Kiski Township; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Joseph Dean Wilds Jr.; and one sister, Violet M. Benninger.

KLINGENSMITH — Friends of Howard L. Klingensmith, 85, of Airport Road, Gilpin Township, who died March 28, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Clawson's, Second at Main, Leechburg, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with his pastor, the Rev. Kevin E. Anderson, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
