SLC, UT -Iona Andrus, 99, died 17 February 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born 22 April 1917 at the family home in Marion, Summit County, Utah to Joseph Boyes Andrus and Harriet Emily Stevenson Andrus. She graduated from Utah State University in 1941 with a BA degree in English and a minor in business. She taught high school for two years in Utah and Idaho before accepting employment as a personnel manager for Utah Job Service in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1951 she moved to San Francisco, California and was the personnel manager for West Coast Life Insurance Company. She managed the home office and oversaw the satellite offices. In 1960, Iona returned to Utah to care for her parents, working first for the Utah State Library and then returning to work for Utah Job Service. Upon her retirement at age seventy, she began an ambitious restoration of her childhood home. Iona cherished her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served as a teacher and in stake and ward Relief Society and MIA presidencies.
Iona enjoyed her family, many friends, traveling, the Utah Symphony Guild, skiing, golfing, hiking, the Utah Jazz, horse back riding, birthdays and the Double Diamond Ranch. She was an exceptional aunt who enriched the lives of her nieces, nephews, and many others.
Iona is survived by her many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Joseph (Elizabeth) W. Andrus, T. Roscoe (Winifred) Andrus, Millard A. Andrus, Ida A. (Wallace) Beutler, Ruth Andrus, and special cousin Erma A. (Keith) Young.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 25 February 2017 at 12:00 noon in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT where friends may call prior to services from 11:00 -11:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or the Utah Symphony Guild. Interment will be in the Marion, Utah Cemetery.
