Iona Lavere Deemer, age 97, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She was born August 28, 1919, in Hartsgrove, Ohio, to Milo and Chloie (Young) Evans.
Iona was a graduate of Geneva High School, raised her family and worked in the food industry.
In 1951, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and spent her life studying the Bible with many people. She was a staunch defender of her faith.
She enjoyed baking, bird watching, crocheting, knitting, sewing, making dolls. Iona was extremely proud of her family.
Survivors include her children, Shirley Lucas, Ron (Gail) Deemer, Harold (Sherry) Deemer, Edith (Mark) Sanford and Howard (June) Deemer; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hamilton; sister-in-law, Edna Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Royce, Keith, Blaine, Shirley and Charles; and sisters, Hilda and Audrey; and son-in-law, Donald Lucas.
At Iona's request no calling hours will be observed. Memorial service will be held 6 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2017, at West Springfield Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 14250 W. Lake Road, West Springfield, Pa. 16443. Arrangements have been entrusted to MARCY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, or to a charities of one's choice.
