GIBSON, Ga. - Mr. Danny Charles Bennett, 57, of Main Street, entered into rest Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the V.A. Hospital, Augusta. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell Baptist Church Cemetery, Mitchell, Ga. Mr. Olin Mathis will be giving the eulogy. Mr. Bennett served his country in the Vietnam War in 1969-1970. Upon returning to the U.S., he was awarded the rank of Sergeant. He was decorated by many medals and badges including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, two Overseas Bars Army Commendation Mdl, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert (Rifle M-16), Expert (81 MM Morter), and a W/60 DVC. After military service he became a United States Marshal. Later he opened the Dan Bennett Realty Company in Aiken, S.C. until his retirement in 2004. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Kent Bennett of Gibson; his mother, Freddie Bennett of Eastman; one son, Benjamin Bennett of Eastman; one daughter, Carmen Cook of Brunswick; one grandson, Grayson Cook; two sisters, Lynn Thomas and Nancy Bennett, both of Eastman and two brothers, Larry Bennett and Randy Bennett, both of Eastman. Pallbearers are Tom Kent, Bill Kent, Jimmie Pennington, Randy Bennett, Earl Thomas and Stephen Whigham. Sheppard Funeral Home.
